Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intercepted three disassembled canoes allegedly procured by notorious terrorist leader Shehu Bagewaye to facilitate the movement of his fighters across riverine areas of Zamfara State.
The operation was carried out on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following credible intelligence that the canoes had been purchased from Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State and were being transported to Zamfara.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 conducted a covert operation in identified areas and intercepted the canoes while they were being transported.
The individuals conveying the canoes reportedly abandoned them and fled after sighting the troops.
The military said the canoes were intended to help the terrorists overcome river obstacles, improve their mobility and support criminal activities against vulnerable communities.
The recovered items have been taken into military custody, while security forces are continuing efforts to identify and track those involved in the attempted transportation.
The Joint Task Force described the interception as another intelligence-led success aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics and restricting the movement and operational capabilities of criminal groups.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent terrorist activities and protect lives and property.
