The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 secondary school students in Adamawa State for allegedly taking part in the banned "Signed Out" graduation celebration.
According to the NSCDC, the students, drawn from Capital School, GDSS Demsawo, Doubelli and Damilu, were apprehended by the Safe School Response Squad following intelligence reports of activities that disrupted public peace.
Authorities alleged that the students painted their bodies, tore their school uniforms, fought on public streets and engaged in other acts considered capable of causing public disorder.
The command said the Adamawa State Ministry of Education banned the "Signed Out" celebration in 2025 after repeated concerns over violence, misconduct and threats to public safety associated with the event.
NSCDC also disclosed that some participants allegedly disguised themselves in suspicious clothing and reportedly robbed members of the public of mobile phones and other valuables during the celebration.
Investigators further discovered that one person arrested in a school uniform was not a student, while some of those detained were SS1 and SS2 students rather than graduating final-year students.
State Commandant CC Nasiru Saleh has ordered a full investigation to identify everyone involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He also directed the Safe School Response Squad to strengthen collaboration with schools and other stakeholders to prevent similar incidents and ensure a safe learning environment.
The NSCDC said it is working with the affected schools to verify the identities of all those linked to the incident while reaffirming its commitment to protecting students and maintaining public order.
