A 26-year-old Ghanaian lawyer, Sarah Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Tettey, a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and had started practising law at O & A Legal Consult.
Reports say she was watching the match with friends at a private hostel near KNUST when she suddenly collapsed during celebrations after Ghana’s win.
She was rushed to KNUST Hospital, where doctors and nurses performed CPR for about 45 minutes in an attempt to save her life. Despite the medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
Her death has caused shock and sadness among members of Ghana’s legal community, especially her colleagues and friends at KNUST and the Ghana School of Law.
Friends described her as a hardworking and promising young lawyer whose future in the profession was bright.
Her body has been deposited at the KNUST Medical School mortuary while arrangements are being made. The exact cause of her death has not yet been officially confirmed.
