Russian Teen Mirra Andreeva Crowned Roland Garros Champion

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva secured the first Grand Slam title of her career on Saturday after defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the women's singles final at the French Open.

At just 19 years old, Andreeva became the youngest women's champion at Roland Garros since Monica Seles won her third consecutive title in Paris at age 18 in 1992. The victory also made Andreeva the first player born after 2005 to win a Grand Slam singles title.

The Russian star added the prestigious Coupe Suzanne Lenglen trophy to her growing collection, having already claimed two WTA 1000 titles earlier in her young career.

Despite the defeat, Chwalinska enjoyed a remarkable tournament run. Starting from the qualifying rounds, the world No. 114 won nine matches to become the first qualifier in the Open Era to reach a French Open women's singles final. Her impressive performance is expected to propel her to No. 21 in the world rankings, securing her place in future major tournaments.

The final began nervously, with both players struggling to settle under windy conditions on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Andreeva earned an early break, only for Chwalinska to respond immediately. The pair exchanged breaks several times before the Polish player briefly took a 3-2 lead.

However, Andreeva gradually gained control of the match, using powerful groundstrokes and consistent serving to claim the opening set 6-3. She maintained her momentum in the second set, racing into a commanding lead as Chwalinska battled to keep pace.

Although the Polish qualifier showed determination by breaking back when Andreeva served for the match, the Russian teenager quickly regained control. Andreeva sealed victory in the following game with a brilliant backhand winner before collapsing to the clay in celebration.

The triumph marks the biggest achievement of Andreeva's career so far and establishes her as one of the brightest young talents in world tennis.
