Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has become one of the biggest stories of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after his outstanding performance against Spain earned him worldwide attention and a dramatic rise in social media followers.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper’s Instagram followers jumped from just over 50,000 to more than 7.6 million within 24 hours after Cape Verde’s historic goalless draw with Spain in Atlanta.
Vozinha was instrumental in helping World Cup debutants Cape Verde secure their first-ever point in the tournament. He produced several crucial saves to deny Spain’s attacking stars, including teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, and was named Player of the Match.
His remarkable display turned him into one of the most talked-about players of the tournament.
Born in Mindelo, Cape Verde, Vozinha started his professional career later than most footballers, joining local club Batuque at the age of 25 in 2007. He went on to play in Portugal, Angola, Moldova, Cyprus, and Slovakia, earning a reputation as a reliable goalkeeper.
