Global music stars Shakira and Burna Boy are scheduled to perform the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
The performance will take place on June 11 at Estadio Azteca ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
The song, titled “Dai Dai,” has been selected as the tournament’s official anthem. FIFA says the track reflects football’s ability to bring together people from different cultures and backgrounds. The title is derived from an Italian expression commonly used to encourage or motivate others, meaning “come on” or “let’s go.”
The opening ceremony will also feature performances by J Balvin and Tyla as part of celebrations marking the start of the month-long competition.
According to FIFA, the choice of Shakira and Burna Boy reflects the organization’s desire to showcase artists with significant global influence while capturing the passion and energy associated with the World Cup.
Additional opening events are planned across the tournament’s co-host nations. In Canada, Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette are expected to perform before the host nation’s opening fixture in Toronto. Meanwhile, in the United States, Katy Perry and Future will headline pre-match entertainment before the U.S. faces Paraguay in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s appearance continues her long-standing association with the World Cup, following the success of previous tournament songs, including Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La.
The Colombian star is also expected to return for the World Cup final on July 19, where she will reportedly co-headline the competition’s first Super Bowl-style halftime show alongside Madonna and BTS.
