Bosnia and Herzegovina have qualified for the FIFA World Cup knockout stage for the first time in their history after defeating Qatar 3–1 in their final Group B match.
The victory took Bosnia to four points, and FIFA later confirmed that they advanced as one of the best third-placed teams into the last 32.
Qatar, meanwhile, were eliminated at the group stage, repeating their early exit from the 2022 tournament. However, they secured one point this time after finishing without a point in their previous World Cup appearance.
Bosnia’s 18-year-old forward Kerim Alajbegovic opened the scoring with a brilliant strike, becoming the country’s youngest-ever World Cup player to score. Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada later scored an own goal to give Bosnia a 2–0 lead.
Qatar fought back before halftime when veteran captain Hassan Al-Haydos scored to reduce the deficit.
Bosnia sealed the win in the 80th minute through Ermin Mahmic, who scored in consecutive matches to secure their historic qualification.
The result marked a major achievement for Bosnia, while Qatar ended their campaign with disappointment despite showing improvement compared to their 2022 World Cup performance.
