Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commenced the distribution of 100 trucks of rice alongside a ₦1.2 billion palliative fund to support vulnerable households across Northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
The initiative, flagged off in Kaduna on Thursday, is targeted at easing hardship among Muslim communities as preparations for Eid-el-Kabir intensify. It is being implemented in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, led by Ibrahim Masari.
Speaking at the launch, the First Lady said the intervention reflects the core values of Eid-el-Kabir—sacrifice, compassion, and unity. She explained that both food items and financial assistance would be distributed through state-level committees to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries.
According to her, the programme also highlights inclusiveness, noting that a similar effort was carried out in December 2025 for Christian communities in the North.
Mrs Tinubu reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Bola Tinubu to policies aimed at improving citizens’ welfare and delivering long-term economic benefits.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, described the intervention as a demonstration of compassionate leadership and national unity. He added that his government would continue to mitigate the effects of economic reforms through support for small businesses, youth empowerment, agriculture, and security investments.
He also urged citizens to remain patient and united despite current economic challenges, calling on community and religious leaders to promote peace and mutual support across the country.
