Supreme Court Overturns Appeal Court Order, Restores David Mark as ADC Chairman.

Nigeria’s Supreme Court has reinstated former Senate President David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), resolving a leadership dispute within the party.

In a unanimous ruling delivered on Thursday, a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba nullified an earlier decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had ordered a return to the previous leadership status (status quo ante bellum).

The apex court held that the appellate court’s order was unnecessary and procedurally flawed. It further stated that the appeal on jurisdiction was improperly filed, as it stemmed from an ex parte order asking parties to show cause without first obtaining the required leave of the court.

The judgment effectively overturns the delisting of the Mark-led executive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), restoring his leadership of the party.
