Nasarawa Govt Rolls Out Quarterly Payment Plan for Retirees’ Gratuities

The Nasarawa State Government has introduced a quarterly payment system for gratuities, targeting more than 1,300 retired civil servants in the state.

The initiative is part of efforts to address long-standing arrears owed to retirees and to ensure a more organized and sustainable payment structure.

Officials from the state pension office disclosed that about ₦300 million has been released in the first phase to cover both state and local government retirees.

The government explained that the new payment arrangement is designed to gradually reduce the backlog of unpaid benefits.

A “first come, first served” method will be used in processing payments, while a committee comprising government officials and representatives of retirees has been set up to ensure transparency and fairness.

Authorities say the policy aims to:

Clear outstanding gratuity debts in phases

Improve efficiency in pension administration

Enhance the welfare of retired workers who served the state

Under the new system, retirees will no longer receive lump-sum payments at once. Instead, gratuities will be paid in installments every quarter until all verified beneficiaries are fully settled.
