20 Killed in Suspected Terrorist Attack Along Borno–Adamawa Border Communities

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed at least 20 people in coordinated attacks on border communities in Borno and Adamawa States, North-East Nigeria.

The attacks reportedly took place on Tuesday around 4 p.m. in Pubagu, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, and Mayo-Ladde in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Local authorities confirmed that the attackers stormed both communities, overpowering local vigilantes and security operatives before opening fire on residents.

According to the Chairman of Askira Uba LGA, Mada Saidu, 11 people were killed in Pubagu (Borno), while nine others lost their lives in Mayo-Ladde (Adamawa), bringing the total death toll to 20.

He explained that although local hunters and vigilante groups attempted to resist the attackers, they were outnumbered and forced to retreat.

The two affected communities are located near each other and are separated by a river, making them vulnerable to cross-border attacks by armed groups operating in the region.

Security forces have reportedly been deployed to the affected areas to prevent further attacks and restore calm.

Borno and Adamawa States have remained hotspots of insurgency linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP for over a decade, with repeated attacks on rural communities and security outposts. 

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to track down the attackers and secure vulnerable border settlements.
