Court Orders Detention of Alleged Coup Suspects in DSS Custody.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed that six persons accused of involvement in an alleged coup plot be held in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday on a 13-count charge that includes allegations of treason, terrorism, and conspiracy to overthrow the government.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them during the hearing.

Following their plea, the prosecution requested that they remain in DSS custody pending the continuation of the case. The court approved the request and also ordered that the trial be fast-tracked.

The judge further ruled that the suspects should have access to their legal representatives while in detention.

The court adjourned the case until April 27, 2026, for further hearing, including consideration of bail applications.

The accused individuals are being investigated over allegations of plotting to destabilize the government. Security agencies, including intelligence and military bodies, are reportedly involved in the ongoing investigation.

The case is still at an early stage, with the court maintaining that the suspects remain in DSS custody as legal proceedings continue.
