FG Opens Applications for TVET Programme (Batch B – Phase 2).

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the second phase (Batch B) of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme—an ambitious national initiative designed to equip millions of Nigerians with practical, job-ready skills.

This programme is part of a broader strategy to tackle youth unemployment, poverty, and skills shortages across the country by shifting focus from purely academic education to hands-on vocational training.

Purpose of the Programme:

The TVET initiative aims to:

Reduce unemployment, especially among youths

Promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship

Bridge the gap between education and industry needs

Build a workforce with technical and digital skills

Support Nigeria’s transition to a skill-driven economy.

Unlike traditional schooling, TVET emphasizes learning by doing, ensuring participants gain real-world experience.

Training Structure & Options.

The programme offers two flexible pathways depending on the applicant’s background:

1️⃣ Short-Term Certificate (STC)

Duration: 6 months

Designed for:

Beginners

School leavers

Individuals with little or no formal education

Focus: Basic vocational and entry-level skills.

Vocational Education & Innovation (VEI).

Duration: 12 months (1 year)

Designed for:

Applicants with some education or prior skills.

Focus:

Advanced technical training

Innovation and entrepreneurial development

Areas of Training.

Participants can specialize in high-demand sectors, including:

🔌 Electrical installation & maintenance

🔧 Welding and fabrication

🚗 Automobile repair and maintenance

👗 Fashion design & tailoring

💻 Digital skills (media, ICT, content creation)

🌾 Agriculture & agribusiness

🔋 Renewable energy (solar installation, etc.).

These fields were selected based on market demand, increasing the chances of employment or self-employment after training.
