Drone Strike Kills Six Children and Others in Sudan’s Darfur

At least 12 civilians, including six children, were killed on Wednesday in Kutum, North Darfur, Sudan, after a drone strike targeted a residential area, according to health sources and local activists.

Medical sources told AFP that among the deceased were schoolgirls attending a secondary school in the neighborhood. An additional 16 people, including women and children, were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment.

The El-Fasher Resistance Committee, a local civilian group, said the strike hit the Al-Salama neighborhood, near the Al-Um Girls’ School, and accused Sudanese military forces of carrying out the attack.

The strike is part of a growing pattern of drone attacks and air raids across Darfur and other regions in Sudan amid the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that began in April 2023.

Aid groups and human rights organizations have warned that attacks affecting civilians, particularly children, are worsening the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and putting thousands of people at risk.

The conflict between Sudanese military forces and RSF has displaced hundreds of thousands and caused widespread casualties since April 2023.

Since the beginning of 2026, drone and aerial attacks have killed nearly 480–500 civilians and injured over 1,200 in Sudan.
