Boko Haram Strikes Borno Police Stations, 5 Security Personnel Dead

At least five security personnel have been killed following coordinated attacks by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP militants on police facilities in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 4, 2026, targeting the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Nganzai Local Government Area and a duty post at the Malam Fatori IDP Camp in Damasak, Mobbar LGA.

In the Nganzai attack, four police officers were shot dead, while a local hunter, Atom Abua, 40, was killed defending the Damasak IDP camp alongside Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members. The gunmen reportedly used RPGs and other heavy weapons, damaging part of the police station and partially burning an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

Security forces—including police, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), military units, CJTF members, and local hunters—engaged the attackers and successfully repelled the assault. Borno State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has deployed additional personnel to reinforce security in the affected areas. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities.

The attacks are part of ongoing insurgent operations in northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and its splinter group, ISWAP, continue to target security installations, communities, and IDP camps despite counter-insurgency measures.
