Atlético Madrid Beat 10-Man Barcelona 2-0 in Champions League Quarter-Final First Leg

Barcelona, Spain – Atlético Madrid took control of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie after defeating FC Barcelona 2-0 at Camp Nou in the first leg on Thursday.

The match turned in Atlético’s favor when Barcelona were reduced to 10 men shortly before halftime after Pau Cubarsí received a red card for a last-man foul following a VAR review.

Julián Álvarez opened the scoring for Atlético with a stunning free-kick just before the break, and Alexander Sørloth doubled the lead in the second half to seal the victory.

The 2-0 away win gives Atlético a significant advantage heading into the second leg in Madrid, leaving Barcelona with a challenging task to overturn the deficit and progress to the semi-finals.
