The management of Kaduna State University (KASU) has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), KASU chapter, to suspend its two-week warning strike.
The university made the appeal on Friday, August 28, 2026, barely 24 hours after lecturers began the industrial action over concerns about the non-implementation of agreements reached with the Federal Government and other welfare-related issues.
In a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Musa, the university urged the lecturers to give ongoing discussions with the Kaduna State Government an opportunity to resolve their grievances.
The management said the intervention of Kaduna State Governor and Visitor to KASU, Uba Sani, had created a fresh opportunity for dialogue. The governor has constituted a nine-member committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, to examine the lecturers’ concerns and submit recommendations within one month.
The university expressed concern about the impact of the strike on students, particularly those who travelled from different parts of Kaduna State and other parts of Nigeria to study at the institution.
It warned that continued disruption of academic activities could affect students’ education, families and future plans.
ASUU-KASU had also complained about the departure of academic staff from the university, saying the situation could negatively affect teaching and learning.
However, the university management disputed the scale of the alleged staff exodus, stating that 59 academic staff had left the institution between January 2024 and August 2026.
Despite their differences, the university management and the union have indicated their willingness to continue negotiations.
The management assured students and parents that it was making efforts to resolve the dispute quickly and restore normal academic activities.
“We will continue to communicate honestly with Government, engage sincerely with our unions, and place the welfare of our staff and students at the centre of our decisions,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
