Cameroon Make History, Defeat Malawi 3–0 in WAFCON Final

Cameroon have made history by winning their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after defeating Malawi 3–0 in the 2026 final in Rabat, Morocco.

The Indomitable Lionesses dominated the first half, scoring all three goals before the break.

Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring before Naomi Eto doubled Cameroon’s lead with an impressive finish. Ngah Manga then completed her brace to give Cameroon a commanding 3–0 advantage at half-time.

Cameroon remained solid after the break, protecting their lead to secure a historic victory and finally lift the continental trophy after several near misses.

The triumph ends Cameroon’s long wait for the WAFCON title. The team had previously finished runners-up three times, with their most recent final appearance coming in 2016, when they lost 1–0 to Nigeria.

Veteran forward Gabrielle Onguene, 37, was part of that 2016 final and made a late substitute appearance in Rabat. Her appearance marked her eighth WAFCON tournament, making Cameroon’s historic triumph even more memorable.

For Malawi, the final was a landmark achievement as it was their first-ever appearance in the WAFCON final. Despite their impressive campaign, they ultimately finished as runners-up.

Cameroon’s victory marks a historic moment for the country and establishes the Indomitable Lionesses among Africa’s women’s football champions.
