CAF President Calls for Election to Determine Infantino’s Future.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has said FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s future should be determined through an election rather than calls for his resignation.

Infantino is facing growing criticism following his controversial and ultimately abandoned proposal to sell stakes in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.

Several football governing bodies, including UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), have increased pressure on the FIFA president, with concerns raised over governance, transparency and consultation.

However, Motsepe, who also serves as a FIFA vice-president, urged those dissatisfied with Infantino’s leadership to follow the established FIFA electoral process.

He said the 211 FIFA member associations should be allowed to decide whether they still have confidence in Infantino when they vote at next year’s election.

Motsepe also called for caution and a proper forum to address the issues surrounding Infantino, stressing that everyone involved should have an opportunity to be heard.

CAF previously reaffirmed its support for Infantino and said there was no violation of FIFA rules over the proposed World Cup investment plan, arguing that any final proposal would have required approval from FIFA members.

Meanwhile, criticism of Infantino continues to grow. The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has become the latest federation to withdraw its support for him, following similar decisions by the English and Welsh football associations.

The FAI said recent developments had raised serious concerns about governance, transparency and the lack of meaningful consultation.

Infantino is expected to face a major test when FIFA members vote on his leadership at next year’s election.
