Grammy-winning Nigerian music star Burna Boy has been confirmed as one of the headline performers at the inaugural FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
FIFA announced that the 11-minute entertainment spectacle will take place during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Burna Boy will share the stage with international music icons including Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira, South Korean pop group BTS, British rock band Coldplay, acclaimed conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus.
Reacting to the announcement, Burna Boy said he is honoured to represent Africa on the global stage, describing the opportunity as both a privilege and a responsibility. He noted that the event will celebrate football, music, and culture while supporting educational opportunities for children around the world.
The performance, curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, marks the first halftime show in FIFA World Cup final history and is inspired by the NFL Super Bowl entertainment format.
According to FIFA, the show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aimed at expanding access to quality education and football opportunities for children worldwide.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the historic event demonstrates football's power to unite people while promoting education and creating brighter futures for children across the globe.
