Seven African nations have secured places in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, highlighting a strong performance by the continent at the expanded tournament.
The teams that have confirmed qualification are Morocco, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Cabo Verde, Senegal, and Ghana.
Morocco reached the next round after finishing second in Group C, while South Africa made history by reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time after recovering from an opening defeat.
Côte d’Ivoire advanced after strong performances in Group E, and Egypt qualified after finishing second in Group G.
Tournament debutants Cabo Verde continued their impressive run by remaining unbeaten in the group stage and will face defending champions Argentina in the next round.
Senegal also progressed after a convincing 5–0 victory over Iraq, while Ghana secured qualification before their final group match.
Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo are still fighting for the remaining African places ahead of their final group matches.
The 2026 World Cup is the first edition to feature 48 teams, with 32 nations advancing to the knockout stage.
