Bashir El-Rufai Apologises for Announcing Divorce on Social Media, Says Personal Matters Should Be Private

Bashir El-Rufai has publicly apologised for announcing the end of his marriage on social media, admitting that he made a mistake by sharing personal issues online.

He said such matters should have been kept private, adding that his decision to disclose the divorce on X was inappropriate.

Bashir, who had earlier announced the end of his marriage to Halima Kazaure—daughter of former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Ibrahim Kazaure—had cited “Gen Z wahala” in his initial post.

The couple got married in 2020 and welcomed a set of twins in 2021.

Following public reactions to his announcement, he has now withdrawn the sentiment, stressing that personal and family issues should not be made public. However, he also engaged in light banter with some users on X after his apology.
