Real Madrid have fined midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni €500,000 each following a dressing-room altercation at the club’s Valdebebas training complex in Madrid.
According to club sources, the incident occurred during training preparations and reportedly left Valverde with a head injury that required hospital treatment before he was later discharged. The club confirmed the Uruguayan midfielder is now recovering at home and expected to rest for up to two weeks.
In an official statement, Real Madrid said both players admitted responsibility during an internal investigation and issued apologies to teammates, coaching staff, club officials and supporters.
The Spanish giants described the matter as resolved after imposing financial sanctions on both players, adding that the pair expressed remorse over the confrontation.
The incident comes during a difficult period for the club, which is facing the prospect of a second consecutive season without major silverware. Tensions inside the squad have reportedly risen ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash against rivals FC Barcelona.
Valverde earlier addressed the situation on social media, saying the confrontation began as an argument and insisting he accidentally struck a table during the exchange.
Reports also suggest another disagreement involving defender Alvaro Carreras earlier in the week added to growing unrest within the squad.
