A Federal High Court in Kaduna has approved medical access for former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai while he remains in custody during his ongoing corruption trial.
The ruling was delivered during proceedings involving the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which is prosecuting the former governor alongside a co-defendant, Joel Adoga, on multiple counts bordering on alleged money laundering and unlawful conversion of public funds.
The defendants have both pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the defence counsel requested permission for El-Rufai to receive medical attention for dental and eye conditions at designated hospitals in Abuja.
After reviewing the application, the presiding judge granted the request, directing that the former governor be escorted under strict supervision by ICPC officials whenever he is required to attend medical appointments. The court also ordered that he be returned to custody immediately after each visit.
The judge emphasized that all movements for medical purposes must remain tightly controlled and monitored by the anti-graft agency.
Earlier, the court had granted El-Rufai bail set at ₦200 million with two sureties in like sum, while an existing administrative bail for his co-defendant was upheld.
The case was adjourned to May 7, 2026, for further hearing on a separate application seeking variation of bail conditions.
