Nigeria Declares Good Friday and Easter Monday Public Holidays

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Friday, April 3, 2026 (Good Friday) and Monday, April 6, 2026 (Easter Monday) will be observed as public holidays in celebration of Easter. (punchng.com)

The declaration was made in a statement by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday. The minister extended warm Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora, highlighting the importance of values such as selflessness, forgiveness, tolerance, and unity that Easter represents.

He further emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to policies that promote national development, social cohesion, and shared prosperity.

The public holidays are intended to give Nigerians the opportunity to observe the spiritual significance of Easter, participate in religious activities, and spend quality time with family and loved ones.
