Millions in War-Ravaged Sudan Struggle to Survive as Hunger Crisis Deepens

A new report highlights the worsening humanitarian disaster in Sudan, where ongoing conflict has left millions of civilians struggling to survive amid severe food shortages and widespread displacement.

According to humanitarian agencies and recent reporting, the civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has pushed large parts of the country into near-collapse, with communities facing extreme hunger and limited access to basic necessities.

Worsening hunger across the country.

Aid organizations warn that millions of people are now facing acute food insecurity, with many households surviving on just one meal a day. In the hardest-hit regions, especially Darfur and other conflict zones, families have reportedly resorted to eating leaves and animal feed in order to survive.

Humanitarian access blocked.

Relief efforts remain severely restricted due to ongoing fighting, destroyed infrastructure, and insecurity on major transport routes. Humanitarian agencies also say funding shortages are limiting their ability to reach vulnerable populations.

Millions displaced by war.

Since fighting erupted in April 2023, millions of Sudanese have been forced to flee their homes. Many are now living in overcrowded shelters or makeshift camps with limited access to clean water, healthcare, and food.

A growing crisis.

With agricultural production disrupted and markets collapsed in many areas, experts warn that the situation could deteriorate further if access for aid workers is not urgently improved.

Humanitarian groups continue to call for immediate international support to prevent further loss of life as Sudan’s crisis deepens into one of the world’s most severe hunger emergencies.
