JAMB Condemns Hijab Incident at Ibadan CBT Centre

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has condemned an incident at a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in Ibadan, where some candidates were reportedly prevented from sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) over the wearing of hijab.

According to reports, the controversy began after several Muslim female candidates alleged that they were denied entry into the examination hall because of their religious attire.

In its reaction, JAMB distanced itself from the action, stressing that it does not support any form of discrimination based on religious dressing. The board reaffirmed that candidates are allowed to wear outfits in line with their faith while participating in its examinations.

The examination body also expressed concern over the development and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure appropriate action is taken.

The development has sparked public debate, particularly around issues of religious freedom and the conduct of examination centres across the country.
