The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections.
According to the Commission, the exercise, which was intended to update and clean up the national voter register, will no longer take place as earlier scheduled. INEC said a new date will be announced after the elections.
The voter revalidation process was expected to help remove ineligible records from the register, including deceased persons, duplicate registrations, and other irregular entries, as part of efforts to improve the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral roll.
However, the Commission has now shifted the exercise, directing relevant officials to suspend all preparations and await further instructions.
INEC has assured the public that updates will be communicated in due course as part of its ongoing electoral management reforms ahead of the 2027 polls.
