China has expressed support for North Korea, saying Pyongyang is making progress despite ongoing external pressure, during high-level talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during discussions with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, where both sides focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation.
Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening strategic communication and coordination with North Korea, describing the long-standing relationship between the two countries as close and historically significant.
The talks come as China continues efforts to rebuild and strengthen ties with North Korea following years of limited engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beijing has also been gradually restoring diplomatic exchanges and transportation links with Pyongyang.
North Korea, meanwhile, has maintained close relations with China while also expanding cooperation with other partners, including Russia, amid shifting global alliances.
The meeting highlights ongoing efforts by Beijing to maintain stability and influence developments on the Korean Peninsula amid continued geopolitical tensions.
