Manchester City have turned their attention to Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye after Liverpool rejected an £80 million offer for Cody Gakpo.
According to Sky Sports News, Liverpool were unwilling to sell Gakpo because they were concerned about finding a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes.
With the Gakpo deal rejected, Manchester City have revived their interest in Ndiaye. Tottenham had previously agreed a £60 million fee with Everton for the Senegal international, but their move for the winger is now uncertain after the club shifted focus to other targets.
City have already opened discussions with Everton over Ndiaye, while there has also been contact between the two clubs regarding Jack Grealish.
Grealish is reportedly interested in a move to Everton, while Sunderland are also monitoring the Manchester City midfielder.
Manchester City are looking to strengthen their squad with both a wide forward and a central midfielder before the transfer window closes. Their midfield target includes Chelsea and Argentina star Enzo Fernandez.
City's need for another winger has increased after Savio and Omar Marmoush were allowed to join Tottenham earlier this month. During Friday's victory over Crystal Palace, City did not have a recognised winger on the substitutes' bench, with Phil Foden starting out wide.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have strengthened their attack by completing the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million, while Victor Munoz also joined the club from Osasuna earlier in the summer.
With the Gakpo move now off the table, Manchester City must decide whether to push ahead with a deal for Ndiaye or pursue another attacking option before the transfer window closes.
