The Gombe State Police Command has announced a two-day shooting exercise at the Gombe Military Shooting Range in Liji, Gombe State.
According to the command, the exercise will take place from Wednesday, August 12, to Thursday, August 13, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi.
The command said the exercise is part of the routine training activities of its personnel and urged residents and commuters in the area not to panic when they hear gunshots.
The police advised members of the public, particularly those living or travelling around the shooting range, to avoid unnecessary movement within the designated area throughout the exercise.
The command also warned against trespassing into the shooting range, stressing that the restriction was necessary to prevent avoidable incidents and ensure public safety.
“Members of the public are advised not to panic at the sound of gunshots during the stated period and to avoid unnecessary movement or trespassing around the designated range area for safety reasons,” the statement said.
Parents and guardians were also urged to warn their children and wards against going near the shooting range during the exercise.
The police further advised residents to comply with instructions from security personnel deployed around the area.
The command expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and understanding, assuring residents that appropriate measures would be taken to maintain safety and security throughout the exercise.
The shooting exercise is expected to end at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
