Kwara Community Welcomes New Army Battalion

Traditional rulers, local government officials and residents of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have welcomed the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran.

The community leaders commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, saying the deployment would strengthen security across Kwara South and the state as a whole.

Speaking during the official welcome ceremony, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba AbdulRaheem Adeoti, expressed appreciation for the establishment of the battalion under the command of Lt.-Col. Kehinde Avoseh.

The traditional ruler assured the Army of the community’s full support, particularly regarding the welfare of the troops, and pledged that the soldiers would enjoy a peaceful stay in Omu-Aran.

He also thanked the military authorities for maintaining Omu-Aran as the location of the battalion.

The Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Abdulazeez Yakub, also expressed appreciation to the Federal and Kwara State governments. He pledged the council’s full cooperation with the Nigerian Army in carrying out its duties.

The President of the Omu-Aran Development Association, Prince Niyi Adeyeye, said the deployment would help restore peace and strengthen security in Omu-Aran and other communities across Kwara South.

A community leader and retired General, Lasisi Abidoye, also commended President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq for supporting the establishment of the battalion. He assured the officers and soldiers of the community’s maximum cooperation.

Earlier, the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brig. Gen. Nicholas Rume, thanked residents for the warm reception given to the troops.

Rume explained that the deployment was part of the Federal Government’s directive to expand the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army across the country.

He further appreciated residents of the Omu-Aran axis for their continued support for the military.
