APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru has met Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to discuss efforts to secure support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Basiru said he visited Adeleke on Saturday to congratulate him on his victory in the August 15 Osun governorship election, appreciate his attendance at his late mother’s burial, and discuss Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
According to Basiru, Adeleke had promised to work toward delivering Osun State for Tinubu in 2027.
The meeting is notable because Adeleke recently secured a second term after defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. Adeleke won 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke has previously expressed support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term, describing the president as a “son of Osun State.” However, the governor has denied reaching any political agreement with Tinubu in exchange for his support.
Adeleke also visited Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on August 20, saying the visit was to thank the president for his commitment to democracy and his role in ensuring a free and fair Osun election.
Basiru was one of the APC leaders involved in the party’s campaign to unseat Adeleke. The APC’s defeat in the election has raised concerns within the party, with some members blaming internal disagreements, candidate-selection disputes and complacency.
Despite Adeleke remaining outside the APC, his support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid has become an important part of political discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.
