The Nigeria Police Force is set to strengthen its security strategy for the 2027 general elections by deploying artificial intelligence, digital technology and intelligence-led policing.
The Force announced that its sixth Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers will be held from September 21 to 23, 2026, in Owerri, Imo State.
The conference, themed “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections,” will bring together senior police officers, security experts and other key stakeholders to assess emerging threats and develop practical strategies for securing the 2027 polls.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, discussions will focus on intelligence-led policing, police-community partnerships, digital technologies, artificial intelligence and other modern approaches to improving police operations before, during and after elections.
The conference will primarily involve officers of the rank of Commissioner of Police and above and is expected to help strengthen the police’s capacity to manage election-related security challenges.
Iniedu said the retreat would also focus on measures to protect voters, electoral officials, political candidates, election materials and members of the public throughout the electoral process.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the police leadership to institutional reforms, professional development and improved operational readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Nigeria Police Force also said state commands are already engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure adequate security for electoral personnel and materials ahead of the polls.
