Powerful Earthquake in Afghanistan Kills Eight Members of Same Family.

A devastating earthquake struck Afghanistan on Friday night, killing at least eight members of the same family, officials confirmed. The tremor was widely felt across multiple provinces, including the capital, Kabul.

The 5.8‑magnitude earthquake hit the Badakhshan region in northeastern Afghanistan at around 8:42 p.m. local time. In Kabul province’s Gosfand Dara area, a family home collapsed, leaving a two-year-old child as the sole survivor, though injured.

Afghanistan lies on a seismically active zone where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates meet, making earthquakes a recurring threat. A major quake in August 2025 claimed over 2,200 lives and destroyed numerous mountain villages.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant for aftershocks while emergency teams continue to assess the damage and provide aid to affected families.
