Artemis II Crew Sets New Human Space Travel Record.

NASA’s Artemis II astronauts have made history by becoming the farthest humans from Earth, breaking the 56-year-old record previously held by Apollo 13.

The Orion spacecraft, carrying four astronauts, reached approximately 252,760 miles (406,778 km) from Earth—over 4,100 miles (6,600 km) farther than the Apollo 13 mission. The record was officially set as the crew looped around the far side of the Moon, a region never before directly seen by humans.

The mission’s crew includes Commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency. During the lunar flyby, they are capturing detailed imagery of the Moon and experiencing brief communication blackouts when passing behind it.

This milestone represents humanity’s first crewed lunar mission since the Apollo era and advances NASA’s plans for future Moon landings and deep space exploration, paving the way for eventual missions to Mars.
