Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has vowed to challenge a ₦1 billion defamation judgment delivered against her, signaling a continued legal confrontation with Yahaya Adoza Bello.
The ruling, issued by a High Court in Lokoja, determined that statements made by the senator during a television interview in November 2022 were defamatory and harmful to Bello’s reputation. The court awarded substantial damages and directed her to refrain from making further similar comments.
Rejecting the verdict, Akpoti-Uduaghan described the decision as flawed and argued that her remarks were made in good faith and in the public interest. She maintained that the court did not fully consider the evidence presented in her defense.
The senator further emphasized that her comments were a response to earlier allegations, insisting that she acted within her rights to speak on matters of public concern.
Confirming her next step, she announced plans to approach the Court of Appeal, stating her determination to overturn the judgment through due legal process.
