The Presidential Amnesty Programme has sent 54 beneficiaries from the Niger Delta to the United Kingdom for postgraduate studies under its offshore scholarship scheme.
The scholars departed Abuja and arrived in London on Friday to begin their studies at various universities, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Special Assistant on Media to the PAP Administrator, Igoniko Oduma.
The beneficiaries are part of 150 scholars who underwent a pre-departure orientation in August following their deployment by the PAP Administrator, Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro.
The latest deployment brings the total number of Niger Delta beneficiaries sent abroad for postgraduate studies under the programme in 2026 to 243.
The scholars will study various fields, including software engineering, cybersecurity, global public health, oil and gas engineering, law, fintech analytics, construction engineering management, forensic auditing and data science.
Otuaro urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and serve as good ambassadors of Nigeria and the Niger Delta.
He also advised them to obey UK laws and comply with the rules and regulations of their respective universities.
The PAP administrator further encouraged the scholars to return to Nigeria after completing their programmes and use the knowledge and skills acquired to contribute to the development of their communities and the country.
Otuaro described education as an important tool for achieving socio-economic development, sustainable peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
He credited the large-scale scholarship deployments to the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also expressed appreciation to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other stakeholders for their support and guidance to the programme.
