President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi from Gombe State after she emerged the winner of the women’s category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Maryam defeated competitors from 132 countries and won a prize of 300,000 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to about ₦120 million.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Maryam for her outstanding performance and mastery of the Holy Qur’an.
The President described her victory as both a personal achievement and a source of national pride, saying it had placed Nigeria on the international stage.
Tinubu also noted that Maryam’s achievement followed that of her elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan Azumi, who won first place in a similar Qur’anic competition in Jordan in 2024.
He praised their parents, teachers and mentors for the sacrifices and dedication that contributed to the sisters’ success.
According to Tinubu, Maryam competed in a category involving memorisation of the entire Holy Qur’an, recitation, Tajweed, and interpretation of all 60 Hizb with Tafsir.
The President said Maryam’s achievement demonstrated what Nigerian youths could accomplish when talent was combined with discipline, faith, hard work and proper mentorship.
He congratulated Maryam on behalf of the Nigerian government and people and prayed that Allah would continue to guide her, protect her and increase her in knowledge and wisdom.
Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the Saudi Arabian authorities and organisers of the competition for providing an international platform that promotes Qur’anic memorisation, recitation, understanding and scholarship.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the intellectual, moral and spiritual development of Nigerian youths.
